Module 4

Kahoot
Solaid, Leachtanna & Gáis

Of all the modules, to date this is the one where I think shows the tools best able to assist with assessment. The only problem with them, is that they all take time to get to know and to find out how best to use them.

The example is did was with Kahoot but I couild just have easily used Socrative or Study Stack. Study Stack looks very interesting in that when you have created your stack, you can then assess the knowledge in many different ways with just the click of a button. I thought the Bug games would be very useful where key facts or vocabulary needs to be reinforced and the challenging element of the game would really lend itself to that.

A new concept to me but that I would like to try out this year is Flipped Learning and I think that ED Puzzle would be avery simple and effective way to achieve this.

Module 3

This was quick and interesting and thought provoking module. The concept of assessment being the bridge between teaching an learning is a very simple yet powerful one.

Before using Rubrics, I think I would start with 2 or 3 Stars and a Wish – either students assessing themselves, peer assessment and also teacher assessment. I think I would also do some K. W. L.'s

I have used rubrics in the past but this is the first time I have created my own. It won't be the last ! It was a little slow to do the first time, but I'm sure with practice it gets quicker. It was difficult enough to think of the various heading and then criteria to use and also to keep them concise and to the point. Mind you there are a lot of rubrics available online so a quick google search leads to hundreds of possibilies. Not always a need to reinvent the wheel !

Module 2

In light of the I. N. T. O. 's directive not to comply with scjool self evaluation, I don't think that it is appropiate to discuss it, even as part of a summe course. Therefore, I shall give my two cents worth on what I leaned in module 2 and in particular what I leaarned about digital storytelling.

Storybird looks absolutely brillaint and I shall definitely use in with my class next year.

Youtube Video Editor also looks great, but if using anything for movies/video editing, I think I would use iMovie as we have a class set of 16 iPads and iMovie looks simpler, especially the templates.

Finally, Puppet Pals looks brilliant but I wonder if it a bit simple for middle and upper classes in primary school. I have used Tellagami on iPads in the past which creates a character and setting and you can animate the character and make him or her talk.

Module 1

This is a blog that we created for our Rang 5 trip to Inis Oírr every year. The children are responsible for writing posts every day on the activities of the previous day as well as photographs. Parents, other classes, siblings and othrs are encouraged to comment on these posts and the páistí can then comment back on these comments. They love reading the comments ! All this is done as Gaeilge and it really enhances the amount and standard of Gaeilge which is the whole raison d;etre of the trip. The advent of mobile technologies like the iPad and iPhone has made this a whole lot simpler. Our only problem is accessing wi-fi, not always easy in Inis Oírr, but is is improving, Wer chose Blogspot as our blogging platform for its simplicity and ease of use.
As part of our school website, each class also has a blog where they can add pictures, videos, text or examples of the childrens' work. As this increases the audience for childrens' work, it also increses the childrens' motivation to produce the very best work that they can.
